4.5 MW Crop Residues fired Power Plant in Kirugaval

33,661 MT of Cane Trash & Coconut Fronds collected during FY 2003-04 (73% of total fuel fired).

MPPL's Biomass Supply Chain has created 450 jobs and contributes Rs.45 million/year to rural GDP.

Boiler availability is an area of key concern while firing low density Crop residues in view of the problem of slagging/corrosion, particularly in the super heater zone.  There is also the issue of higher unburnts particularly when fuel moisture content is high.

During FY 2003-04 improvements in the Boiler Construction as well as O&M protocols have been implemented, which has resulted in Boiler availability of 87.71% and efficiency of 76.54%.

During FY 2003-04 the Key Performance Parameters were
  • Plant Availability of 81.41% and PLF of 75.64%.

  • Auxiliary Power Consumption of 11.50%.

  • Specific fuel consumption of 1.55 Kg/kwh with average fuel calorific value of 2,700 kcal/kg & cost of Rs.1051/MT.

Electricity Sales
: 26.54 million kwh
